It is always said that one should dream big. We do not know how big our dream was, but we still did dream. We dreamt of bringing all the Kannada bloggers together under one roof- to meet, to talk and discuss about various issues about usage of the Kannada language on the net.
March 16th was the day; Indian Institute of World Culture was the place where our dream was to come to life. A Software Engineer who innovated a new style of writing, a journalist who kept the poet in him alive by blogging, a student who developed his writing skills on the net were all there, bringing our dream to life.
Blogs have set in a new revolution in the literary world, where there are discussions on various aspects of writing and different styles in literature. Instead of keyboards conversing and discussing, Pranati aimed at providing a platform where bloggers could themselves voice their opinions.
Inauguration of Pranati and release of our first publication- Chitrachaapa had encouraged and supported us in organizing in this event. Bloggers’ enthusiastic participation had made that event a grand success and we hoped the same this time too.
We had with us Dr. U. B. Pavanaja of Vishvakannada fame, Mr. Abdul Rasheed of Kendasampige repute, Mr. Shyamsundar of the popular Kannada portal Thats Kannada and Mr. Hariprasad Nadig of Sampada acclaim for the meet, who talked about the past , present and future of the blog world and usage of the Kannada language on the net.
Dr. U. B. Pavanaja narrated to us the initial hardships faced by him in starting a Kannada magazine on the net and the technical difficulties behind the creation and usage of Kannada fonts those days. He also explained the ways in which those difficulties were overcome. He also made us aware of the various problems faced frequently in the usage of Kannada on the net.
Next to speak was Mr. Hariprasad Nadig, who spoke about the technical problems in starting social networking sites like Orkut in Kannada and also suggested possible solutions. He also dealt with problems confronted in encoding Kannada fonts in various browsers.
Mr. Abdul Rasheed next spoke about blogs supplementing Kannada literature in its own way and hence its role in developing Kannada literature as a whole. Speaking about the content on the blogs, he said that blog posts must not only be limited to poems, short stories and daily experiences, but should also analyze and critique various issues happening around the world. He emphasized on the point that blogs posts must have good content which gets the people thinking. Readers should be able to derive more than just pleasure and fun from blogs. “How long can light and lucid writings sustain in the blog world?” he asked.
Kannada bloggers should think globally was the opinion voiced by Mr. Shyamsundar S. K. Agreeing with Mr. Abdul Rasheed on the seriousness of content on blogs, he also emphasized that writing on current affairs is the only way by which blogs can compete with other media.
True to its objective, Bloggers’ meet was indeed a platform where bloggers met each other and were found commenting without the intervention of keyboards and mouse clicks. Serious discussions were accompanied by conversations like “Is it you? I am a big fan of your writings!” Experiences shared by icons like Mr. Kee. Ram. Naagaraja and Mr. Belur Sudarshan was the icing on the cake.
